Policy on game cancellations due to inclement weather
The Regional Board will only cancel games due to below freezing temperatures, thunder or lightning. If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, immediately clear the fields and seek safe shelter inside a fully enclosed metal vehicle with the windows up or inside a substantial building with a roof and four walls. A Board Member will contact Coaches IF games are canceled. COACHES will then call parents. Just because U6 & U8 games are canceled does not mean the upper level games will be!
The following is the position of the AYSO National Referee Advisory Commission regarding Severe Weather:
“It is said that lightning can strike from a clear blue sky that is within a ten mile radius of a storm in the area. It is therefore strongly recommended that practices and games be terminated immediately upon hearing thunder or seeing lightning.”
In other situations of inclement weather, such as heavy downpours and temperatures nearing freezing, games may be shortened, postponed or canceled at the discretion of both participating coaches. The safety of the children is paramount and should always be first and foremost in making this decision.
Coaches: Please remember that scheduled and re-scheduled games always take priority over practices. If you arrive for a normally scheduled practice and it looks like the field is getting prepared for a game (corner flags are up, goals or nets are out) please move your practice to a different field.
